Happy winter solstice! I am bundled up on the couch next to the Christmas tree with a cup of tea while Tara naps, feeling the urge to write and reflect as we approach the new year and I celebrate 2 years of motherhood (Tara turned 2 this weekend!).
My writing mentor, Anne Cushman, offers this favorite simple prompt for reflection: What did it sound like? Taste like? Smell like? Look like? Feel like? I love how this prompt invokes the deepest sensory memories…
2022, some reflections in no particular order
Time to clean out the closet again…12 months, 18 months, 24 months (my gosh you grow so fast these are too small already?), maternity clothes (do I need to keep these?), why are there so many pairs of shoes (and how did you grow out of them before you even tried them on?)
Do I still know how to teach yoga? Can I run a retreat with a kid? So much has changed and so much is this same. The women, the curry, the rain, the forest, their eyes, the tears, the laughter…I love this. Is it true that I have to just pick one - mothering or my work? This year I felt it, theses 2 devotional practices are woven together, they enrich each other. I don't have to choose.
Who do you want to bring to nana's? Pink piggy…pink bunny…bear bear. Picking all the berries. The Gruffalo, The Snail and the Whale, Corduroy, Blueberries for Sal, Tallulah's Tutu, Lady Bug Girl, Toot Toot Beep Beep.
Snuggles and snuggles and snuggles. Still on our breastfeeding journey, partly ready to move on to the next phase, partly holding on to this one. Those sacred moments, our moments, my favorites.
Little feet. Giggles and jumps and bouncing. And so much running. Tea parties. Dada cooking. “Dada's room.” The bath time fight to rinse your hair. Is it bedtime yet?
The year we really landed here, home. The year we filled the house. So routine, so exciting, so mundane, so profound, so simple, so complex.
p.s. I would love to practice yoga with you! Check out my free practice bundles HERE.
