Sensory work is sacred work

The folks I work with are highly sensitive to interoceptive input (the sensory system that gives us information about our internal state). They feel emotions deeply and are incredibly attuned to the intangible inner world. They use this heightened interoceptive sensitivity in their work as brilliant artists, writers, parents, caregivers, healers, teachers, and spiritual practitioners.

.

When their nervous system gets overloaded (from trauma, sensory overwhelm, or emotional burnout), they can lose access to the input from their interoceptive system. They are getting so much input that their interoceptive system goes numb to survive (ask me how I know). Some lose access to their creativity, their spirituality, their sexuality, their intuition, or their purpose. Some withdraw or isolate. Some retreat to their intellect and get lost in theories and thoughts. Some develop disordered eating or addictions.

.

All want to feel connected and alive again.

.

Yoga and ayurveda are pathways of reconnection. They teach us how to connect to what is sacred within us and around us.

.

Sensory integration is another pathway of reconnection. It teaches us how to connect the needs of our inner world with the needs of our outer world.

.

More coming soon related to sensory integration for highly sensitive folks and ideas about how to work with your unique sensory system if you are highly sensitive to interoceptive input specifically (hint: I am going to invite you to start from the bottom of the pyramid and work your way up).
