How do you know if your yoga practice is "working?" One of my teachers, Rolf Gates, says to look for the "ordinary victories." A teaching from Ayurveda says to observe if your cravings and behaviors are coming from a place of balance or imbalance. Here are some ways that I can feel my practice is "working":
Less staying up late/ more getting up with the sunrise
Less cravings for alcohol, meat, caffeine, and sugar/ more cravings for veggies and nourishing foods
Less judgmental and insecure thoughts/ more kind and loving thoughts
Less mind-numbing TV/ more soul-nourishing books
More joy, more grief, more anger, more love, more laughs, more tears, more feeling
Toxic relationship dynamics start to disappear
Limiting patterns and beliefs start to lose their grip
My creativity flows easily
I say yes when I mean yes and no when I mean no
I rest when I am tired
My mental chatter is quieter and my intuition is louder
Less dependent on external teachers and outside input/ more trusting of my inner knowing
Life feels less like a forceful push/ more like a joyful ride

How are you measuring "progress" in your practice?
